November 2023 Newsletter

2023-11-14

Happy November, everyone! As the weather cools, our thoughts turn to winter activities. For some, that's skiing; for others, it's travelling or dreaming of next year's garden. Here at PEG, we're busily organizing for next year's exciting exhibitions and workshops.

Pearl Ellis Gallery has grown considerably since its creation 46 years ago, and it’s an exciting time to be a part of this vibrant and creative community. Our board of directors has been working diligently to steer us forward in a direction that encourages inclusivity, diversity and equality. Since the Town of Comox has generously provided the space for our gallery, we believe we have a responsibility to the Town to ensure that we are using that space in a way that most benefits the residents of Comox and of the Comox Valley as well as our membership. Our goal in introducing a jury process to select seven of the fourteen scheduled shows of 2024 is to present exhibitions that are cohesive and inspiring to both the viewer and the artists and to attract additional members and patrons. Check out this link to see the full list of exhibition opportunities for 2024. The deadline for the first round of jurying is coming up soon, November 20th, and we encourage all of our members to apply to participate in these juried shows. Check out this link for tips on submitting your applications.

Many exciting opportunities are in the works for 2024, including an extensive workshop series. We’ve had a fantastic response to our call for workshop facilitators, and the schedule will be posted on the website soon.

As the new year approaches, don’t forget to renew your membership. Though the price has increased to $30, it’s still a bargain! Check out this link for a list of our membership benefits.

We are putting the final touches on a members’ survey and hope to have that ready to go before the end of the month. It will be a very useful tool to gather statistics and allow you to share your thoughts with us.

Finally, our last show of 2023 opens on Tuesday, November 21st, and we will gather for the opening reception on Saturday, the 25th. The gallery will be open until December 23rd, and we will have extended hours from 10 am to 4 pm for the final week.

We hope you can come to the gallery to view the work of our talented members and possibly make a gift purchase for the upcoming holiday season!

Stay warm, everyone!
