February 2024 Newsletter

2024-02-26

Membership Renewal: As February winds down, many of you have already renewed your memberships for 2024. If you haven’t already, did you know you can now conveniently register and make your payment online? Explore the updated list of membership benefits.

Donations: In December, PEG donated several paintings to the “Be a Santa to a Senior” program, sponsored by Home Instead (https://www.homeinstead.ca/), which supports older adults who may be overlooked, isolated, or alone during the holiday season. When contemplating whether to gesso over one of your paintings in the future, perhaps consider setting it aside for donation instead. We hope to do this again next year and will remind members in our late fall newsletter.

Art & Found Day: We're excited to be the Comox Valley sponsor for the 4th annual Art & Found Day on Tuesday, March 12th. Join thousands of artists worldwide in placing artworks within local communities for residents to find. Artists choose one or more artworks, package them up safely and clearly marked with the hashtag #ArtandFoundDay, then drop them off where people can find them. We will set up a packaging and labelling station at the gallery on March 12th to make it easy for you to participate. Learn more and register at the official Art & Found website: https://artandfoundday.com/

Exhibitions: Our inaugural juried concept show, "Our Earth," garnered praise for its exceptional quality of work and the insightful addition of artists' thought processes. Currently, our Winter Members' Show graces our gallery walls, boasting a diverse display of creative works from 35 talented members, many of whom are showcasing multiple pieces.

Upcoming Duo Show: Looking ahead, we're excited to announce “Home and Away” featuring the works of Jack Duckworth and Frank Carter. This exhibit promises a captivating exploration of local landscapes, complemented by intriguing images of exotic locales. The show opens on March 5th, with an opening reception on Saturday, March 9th, from 1-3 pm.

Submissions Reopen: Our online submissions reopen on March 1st! This presents a prime opportunity for artists to apply for one of three available solo/group spots and apply to participate in our remaining concept show of the year, "Art with Impact." Submissions will be accepted until April 12th. Click here for more details and click here for submission tips.

Spring Show: Don’t forget our non-juried Spring Members Show is also around the corner. It kicks off on April 30th, and we'll be eagerly accepting submissions starting March 19th.

Enhancements: We're pleased to announce enhancements to our online submission processes, thanks in large part to your valuable feedback. We've implemented changes to ensure smoother operations moving forward.

Satellite Galleries: Another great opportunity that we provide our members is the chance to show work at one of our two satellite galleries: the Comox Library and the Comox Community Centre. Currently, the library is featuring the work of Lynda Glover, and we have eight artists showing work at the Comox Community Centre.

Workshops: Our slate of workshops for the first part of 2024 has been well received and attended so far. Click here to view the full list of workshops, and note that we’ve made online registration and payment possible.

Thank you for your ongoing support and enthusiasm for our special gallery. We appreciate your patience as we continue to refine our operations and look forward to showcasing more exceptional talent in the months to come!
