Pearl Ellis Gallery Jury Call

The Pearl Ellis Fine Arts Society (PEG) is a not-for-profit art gallery located in Comox, BC, dedicated to promoting art in our community. The board of directors is excited to announce a new direction for the gallery, which includes implementing a juried process for the 2024 season. Jury members will play a crucial role in selecting artworks for seven of the thirteen scheduled shows for the 2024 season, aligning with PEG's mission and the themes determined by the board.

The PEG board of directors is inviting applications to fill three of the five jury positions. These positions will primarily involve online work, with the possibility of one in-person meeting with fellow jury members. Jurors should be comfortable using Google applications and Zoom and be available to fulfill their responsibilities during the last two weeks of November 2023 and January 2024.

The PEG is seeking diversity in its jury panel and encourages applications from individuals representing various backgrounds and perspectives. Jurors will receive an honorarium of $200 for their time, paid in two installments, once in November and once in April.
While two of the jury positions will be filled by board members, we are looking for jury members in the following categories:

Professional Artist: An individual with at least five years of experience as a professional artist who is knowledgeable about Canadian arts and culture. This juror may reside anywhere within Vancouver Island.

Comox Community Professional: Someone from the Comox Community, either from a private or public business background, with an interest in the arts as a collector or admirer and a commitment to expanding PEG's audience.

Youth Representative: An individual who is passionate about how visual arts can reflect society and bring about change. While not a requirement, special consideration will be given to applicants who have completed an undergraduate degree in fine arts within the last five years or are currently pursuing a diploma or degree in this area.

*Please note that selected jury members and their families are ineligible to participate in the seven juried shows of 2024.

The jury will select work for seven shows in total, four of which are open calls for solo or group exhibits and the other three are themed group shows. The selection process will be split into two separate sessions. The first to take place at the end of November and the second in April of 2024.

Please provide a brief letter of interest along with relevant information, which may include a formal resume, website, social media profiles, or relevant past experiences. Jury applicants may be contacted for a remote or in-person interview. Successful applicants will be notified by November 3rd.
