Members Show Policies and Guidelines

Policies:

  • In order to exhibit at Pearl Ellis Gallery, you must be a member in good standing with the Pearl Ellis Gallery of Fine Arts Society.
  • Artists may enter one piece up to approximately 24x36 inches, or up to three pieces if they are less than 12x16 inches or part of a diptych or triptych.
  • Larger pieces will be considered if space permits.
  • The art works exhibited in any PEG show must not have been previously shown in the Pearl Ellis Gallery or at any of its satellite venues.
  • The art works must be original, based on the artists’ own images or imagination.
  • The artist must follow PEG guidelines for displaying and hanging art works.
  • Art work must be for sale and the artist agrees to a gallery commission of 20%.
  • The artist agrees to leave all art works for the duration of the show except those pieces sold to out-of-town patrons.
  • By signing the consignment sheet, the artist agrees to: 
    a) not hold the Pearl Ellis Gallery of Fine Arts Society or any of their members, staff, or volunteers liable for any damage, loss or injury to person, persons or property sustained by reason of any accident or incident occurring in or about the Pearl Ellis Gallery of Fine Arts Society 
    b) waive the right to any claim for any loss or damage to the work listed on the consignment form. 
    c) any and all insurance coverage on exhibited work is the responsibility of the artist.
    d) allow the Pearl Ellis Gallery to use submitted photos for advertising purposes. 

Guidelines:

The following points describe how to prepare various types of artworks for display.

Wall-hung paintings, photographs, limited edition prints and fabric art:

  • All artworks must be framed or suitably prepared for hanging.
  • For canvas or cradled board there needs to be a metal wire securely attached to the sides of the back of frame, arching 2 1/2 inches to 3 inches from the centre top, (up to 4 inches for larger works), to facilitate hanging apparatus.
  • Frames and matting must be clean and in good condition.
  • Wrapped canvases must be painted on the sides with no staples showing.
  • Oil paintings must be dry and odour free.

Sculptures, ceramics, jewelry and fabric art:

  • Must be stable and not require supports, unless preapproved and provided by the artist.
