Inspired by the Canadian West Coast
Bert Badey and April Dyck
Pearl Ellis Gallery Jan 12, 2016 – Jan 31, 2016
Two local artists are joining together to present a unique perspective of the Canadian West Coast at the Pearl Ellis Gallery in Comox, BC. Bert Badey (Photographer) and April Dyck (Painter) are presenting a show titled "INSPIRED - Canadian West Coast" from January 12 through to January 31, 2016.
Their artwork differs by the medium they use (photography vs. paint), but their work is equally unique in style. The artwork of both artists can be found in private collections in Canada. Contemporary painter, April Dyck, produces paintings that are colourful and often provoke a feeling in the viewer. Photographer, Bert Badey, strives to find the soul of the subject. Because of their unique styles the show has a balance of abstract and realism. Painting and photography are uneasy relatives and they are not normally shown together.
Photography as always has been an important part of Bert Badey's life. He has a love and connection to nature. "Many times people say to me that they can not tell whether my work is a painting or a photograph. I am expressing through my work what I see in the shadows, lines and textures," he explains.
April Dyck's paintings display a luminescence achieved by the layering of many colours. Each painting is completed with drawn lines to isolate colours and emphasis contours. She is known for her playfulness with perspective. Her work expresses ideals for the betterment of the world. "I'm interested in colour, form, line and ideals in my work. This show has stretched me artistically because I usually don't do landscapes but British Columbia's west coast is beautiful and artistically inspiring," says April.
The two artists currently have pieces at the Comox Airport where their juried work is on display as part of the airport's Arts & Cultural Program.
