“Kindred Spirits”
Judi Pedder and Sheryl Fremlin
Pearl Ellis Gallery Jul 21, 2015 – Aug 09, 2015
The Pearl Ellis Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of the “Kindred Spirits” Art Show, featuring Comox artists Judi Pedder and Sheryl Fremlin. The show runs from July 21st to August 9th and the artists will be exhibiting all new work, with approximately 50 paintings being shown. Their style and expression are unique to each artist, although they both share a passion for Art and in particular the medium of Watercolour. Their new work will feature paintings that depict landscape, floral, figurative, boats, horses, and travel subjects.
Judi Pedder began her art instruction with 4 years at the Ipswich School of Art in the UK and after family and employment issues were behind her, she returned to art as retirement approached. Always fascinated by the transparency of water plus colour, Judi has worked on many different supports, each giving her work a unique appearance, especially when using the properties of Masa paper. Never having seen a workshop or book on this subject, Judi had a video produced, and along with her booklet has “spread the word” to other artists, locally and abroad. Judi added to her expertise with courses at Haliburton School of Art, the Loyalist College and as a member of the FCA.
Judi has presented her work in 22 juried shows and nearly 30 solo shows, and literally dozens of group and community events. She has instructed art workshops and still offers classes every winter in her studio. Along the way there have been a few awards and achievements, though Judi considers her personal opinion of her work as the most important. While her favourite subjects are “flower portraits” and landscapes, Judi has more recently used dye on silk to portray her one-of-a-kind subjects as paintings and randomly painted silk scarves, always learning and experimenting! Silk painting workshops and shows have been added to her already busy art life!
Sheryl Fremlin CSPWC is a professional watercolour artist who is an elected signature member of the prestigious Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour since 2001. Her paintings are distinctive for their rich vibrant color and being grounded in the principles of solid design and draftsmanship with an impressive mastery of technique and style. Sheryl is a graduate of the North Light Art School and the Sheffield School of Interior Design. She is past president and a founding member of the Cariboo Artists’ Guild, is an Active status member with the Federation of Canadian Artists, and is a supporting member of the Comox Valley Arts Council and the Brushworks group. She has exhibited her work in many galleries; either as a solo artist, or in group shows since 1987; her paintings have been accepted into numerous international, national and regional juried art shows. Her paintings are held in many private and corporate collections throughout North America.
