Dan Telosky

Daniel Gordon Telosky has lived and worked all his life on or near Discovery Passage and he has explored the rest of the BC coast in the last 10 years.

Starting as a guide at Painter's Lodge at 15 years old he was a guide for many seasons, also went commercial fishing and was a boom man in Campbell River over the next 25 years. Currently Dan is in a Marine Service business and spends all his free time on the water exploring the Central Coast in his boat with his wife and their dog.

As a result of his close ties to our part of the coast, marine scapes and marine traffic are so imbedded in Dan that it is not surprising that from an early age his art has always been directed to all things related to the water.

Dan is mostly a self-taught artist, as well as attending numerous workshops and courses over the years. His first outlet was sketching the varied marine traffic he saw daily in Discovery Passage including some of the famous working boats such as the Sudbury, Sudbury II, Ivanhoe and the SD Brooks.

Dan began painting with acrylics in earnest in 1995 and has been developing and growing as an artist ever since, his attention to detail when painting working boats is very important to him, he insists that he gets the boat right. Dan has now completed a body of work of over 200 pieces, much of his new work are marine scapes that reflect his love of these hidden places in all weather and light.

Dan spends most of each summer cruising the BC coast from the Discovery Islands to Haida Gwaii photographing this amazing coast and getting inspired to interpret his impressions of our amazing coast that he loves.
