Mary Hicks

Mary Hicks is a Denman Island resident and has been an artist for 30 years in a variety of mediums: oil pastels, chalk pastels, oil paints, photography, and most recently metal (copper, iron, brass) and enamelling. She has worked solely in the area of sculpture the past several years in order to pursue an interest in working with metal. This past year she has begun to incorporate enamelled copper into her sculptures and art jewellery. Currently she is producing a small to larger sculpture series incorporating woven copper panels, woven copper elements, enamelled copper panels, mixed media, and woven photographs. She enjoys the exploration of depth, shapes, colour, and texture that working with metal, photographs, and enamel provides as well as the study of various metal and enamelling techniques which continues to ignite her passion for art.

Mary is an Alumna of California Institute of the Arts (Fine Arts Major; photography, oil pastels, & chalk pastels) and is a member of the following organizations: Pearl Ellis Gallery, Arts Denman, Metal Arts Guild of Canada, & Canadian Artists.
