Art education
Robert Lierman Commercial Art School, Bruges Belgium, 4 years

I spent my childhood in southern Ontario and started painting in oils at the
age of 12.
Career
After school, I found employment at “Die Keure” in Bruges, designing signs for the silkscreen department. Four years later my wife inherited a cocoa and coffee plantation and we moved to the DRC/Zaire. When the plantation was nationalized in 1974 I found employment in the agriculture and forestry sector. I again took up painting and carving in my free time.
I retired in 1994, moved to South Africa and started painting full time. I joined a group of painters and regularly painted together at improvised ateliers in the back-country.
In 2013 I moved to Vancouver Island, became a Canadian citizen and residein Comox and paint most days in my small studio.
My preferred medium is oils.
