Ruth Rae

Ruth Rae is a Comox resident and mainly self-taught artist exploring various art forms for some 25 years plus. She is a skilled potter and has created many functional dishware pieces as well as hand built raku – mixing glazes from earth elements and firing them at her home studio. She has also worked with acrylics, watercolour and soft pastel. She is now working mainly with soft pastel and using it to deeply explore the attributes of this medium.

In addition she is currently studying and producing a series of life drawings in charcoal . In 2015 she will be focusing on local landscapes using pastel to recreate favourite vistas to share with locals and visitors alike. Rounding out her portfolio will be studies of animals of all varieties.

The purpose of art is, in her view, to bring people closer to their true nature and it is her view that dedication to this craft and excellence in perception and reproduction is the key to inviting the viewer in to this world within a world. It is the honing of these skills and the desire to make a contribution in this way that drives her daily passion for art in all its many forms. This artist feels tremendously fortunate to be a resident in this Valley and hopes to share her vision with people as a reminder slow down and embrace all that surrounds them.

Ruth is a member of the Pearl Ellis Gallery, the Comox Valley Art Gallery.
