Born in Calgary, Alberta, I escaped the corporate world for the wonders of Vancouver Island nearly 20 years ago.

I have always had my fingers in the creative domain starting when I wrote my first poem at the age of eight. The written word, expressed in poetry and short stories flowed into the art of calligraphy. I spent many a youthful hour in my parent’s basement mesmerized by the sensual formation of letters.

Around age 12 I was given my first camera. Since then, much of my world has been viewed through the ‘lens’. My photos are the inspiration for many of my paintings and poems. Adding to this milieu are the ‘thread arts’ of a variety of embroidery styles, as well as sketching - always sampling to find the ‘right’ medium for current expression.

The ensuing years were taken up with earning a degree in Biology and working in both medical research and corporate Human Resources. Writing was my main creative form during this time, being published in a number of technical and volunteer newsletters.

Having transplanted to the Island, the search was on for the next creative instrument. Water colours had their own calling, but having put my hands on clay I was smitten. In my studio in Parksville, I created custom architectural ceramic pieces for clients (e.g., sculpted, carved and mosaic kitchen backsplashes, tub surrounds, floors). My work is installed locally and internationally.

Having the itch to travel, we sold everything off and downsized into an RV, spending a number of years travelling. During that time I began painting to satisfy the creative itch. Having dabbled in water colours and oils, acrylics were chosen because of the fit into the travelling lifestyle.

My pieces, be they realistic or interpretive, are a vehicle to release the energy captured within the art.
