March 2023 Newsletter

2023-03-23

Pearl Ellis Gallery is a non-profit organization that operates with 100% volunteers. Our current mandate is to promote interest in and the study of visual arts, provide facilities for education and instruction in the arts, maintain a permanent arts center in the Town of Comox, and provide two annual education bursaries for high school students pursuing art as a career. We have an excellent group of volunteers, but more are always needed. Two of our Board members have stepped aside after outstanding service. Thank you for your dedication, Maja Harrington and Karen Erickson.

A new president, Miriam Myers, secretary, Teresa Kachanoski, and member at large, Isabelle Durand have been selected and appointed by the Board. This will aid the Gallery to continue up to the Annual General Meeting which will be held in the near future. More information will follow with the details of this event which we encourage you to attend.

Members’ shows are a very popular outlet for our artists to publicly show their work; the pieces are selected on a first-come first-served basis so watch your email for notices of events and act quickly. There are also solo and group shows available with a wait list; sign up and your time will come!

The Board wants to extend a hearty welcome to all new members who have joined us this year and we look forward to meeting you through our various events and engagements. Your annual membership fee enables you the opportunity to participate in member art shows, attend workshops at a discount, take advantage of benefits with local businesses, provide art cards for sale, and many other advantages. Please visit the website for more infomation.

An upgrade to our website is underway, including a review of the Artist’s Directory. You may be contacted if information is required and you also may see changes to the website from time to time. We hope to have the update finished within the next four to six weeks. We will then be looking for a Volunteer Website Monitor to keep the site in current condition. This position as well as other open Volunteer Coordinator opportunities are described here.

We look forward to a vibrant upcoming year with many opportunities to learn and grow.
