Pearl Ellis Gallery is excited to announce "Giftables: A Holiday Pop-up", running from November 12th to 23rd. This event will transform our gallery into a holiday pop-up shop, offering unique handcrafted gifts. We invite artists and craftspeople to participate in this festive two-week event.

Event Details:

• Exhibition Dates: Tue-Sat, 10 am to 4 pm, Nov 12-23, 2024 (10 shopping days total)
• Location: Pearl Ellis Gallery, 1729 Comox Ave
• Setup Date: Sunday, Nov 10, 10am - 12pm
• Take-down Date: Saturday, Nov 23, 4pm

About the Show:

"Giftables" will offer shoppers high-quality, handcrafted items at affordable prices. Buyers can purchase and take items immediately, making this an ideal event for holiday shopping. Sellers will not need to be on hand, our gallery hosts will take care of all sales.

Categories of Accepted Work:

We welcome applications from artists and craftspeople working in various mediums, including:

• Jewelry
• Ceramics
• Textiles
• Woodwork
• Glasswork
• Photography
• Handmade prints, e.g. Collagraphs/Lithographs/Linocuts etc.
• Original paintings
• Sculptures
• Paper crafts
• Tree ornaments
• Other high quality handmade items

Submission Guidelines:

Artists can submit their information via our Google Form link starting September 15th. The deadline for submissions is October 22nd.

Required details:

• Contact Information: Full name, phone number, email, and website or social media links (if available).
• Artist Statement: A brief description of yourself and your work (max 200 words) and a photo of yourself. These will be used to create a 4x5 profile card for you, to place near your work.
• Portfolio: High-quality images of the items you intend to sell, plus dimensions, materials, and retail prices.
• Display Requirements: Indicate your preferred display method (table space, wall space, plinth, etc) and any special needs.

Pricing Guidelines:

• Maximum Price per Item: $250
• Prices should include a 20% gallery commission.

Space Allocation:

Due to limited space:

• Shared Tables: Each 6-foot table will be shared between three artists (plan for 2wx3h feet of space). Artists are encouraged to bring small display boxes, risers etc to improve their display. Please ensure these are labeled. If you have any tablecloths available for use please let us know.
• Display Rotation: Though we will primarily keep your work in one area, in order to have a pleasing, dynamic display, we may move your work around in the gallery as items sell.
• Wall Space: Sections of slatwall will be assigned to artists displaying hanging works. We have a limited number of 6-ball waterfall slatwall holders which can be used to display tea towels, tote bags etc. We will also have slatwall shelves available.
• Plinths: Reserved for 3D artworks. Plinths may need to be shared depending on the number and size of submissions.

Selection Process:

Applications will be reviewed based on quality, originality, and suitability for the "Giftables" theme. Selected artists will be notified by October 29th.

Fees and Commission:

• Participation Fee: $10 (covers admin and marketing).
• Gallery Commission: 20% on all sales.
• Card Sales: Single cards sold by The Pearl's existing card sellers will be sold with a 15% commission. Single cards sold by new sellers and all packs of cards will sold with a 20% commission.

Terms and Conditions:

• All artworks must be original and created by the submitting artist.
• Reproduction prints of paintings will not be accepted. Unframed matted original work and handmade collagraphs, lithographs and linocuts, etc, will be accepted.
• Artists will be assigned a two digit number code; in order to be paid each item must be labeled with both this code and price.
• Artists are responsible for the delivery and pickup of their work.
• Artists are encouraged to replenish stock throughout the show. Limited storage is available for smaller items, please enquire.
• Buyers will take items immediately, so all pieces must be ready for sale.
• The gallery will handle all transactions and will pay artists for sold items within 30 days after the show ends.
• Artists are responsible for insuring their work if desired.
• All participants must be a member of the Pearl Ellis Gallery. We will be lowering the 2024 membership fee to $10 at the start of this show. Alternatively, beginning November 1st, you may purchase a 2025 membership for $30, which will include the remaining portion of 2024.

We’re excited to invite submissions for our 2025 open juried exhibitions! These spots will be awarded to an individual or group who presents a compelling proposal showcasing a unique perspective or a cohesive body of work.

We want to see your creative ideas that spark interest and conversation! Whether you’re an emerging artist or part of an established group, share what inspires you—be it themes of identity, community, or personal experiences—and how your work reflects that.

When you submit, tell us the story behind your art and how you envision presenting it to engage the audience. This is a wonderful opportunity to share your artistic voice and be part of our gallery community. We can’t wait to see your unique vision come to life!

There are four time slots available in 2025, and all are 25 days:

• February 4th to March 1st
• April 29th to May 24th
• July 22nd to August 16th
• October 14th to November 8th

The form will be open for submissions from October 1st to November 5th, and selections will be announced by November 29th.

This exhibition is all about celebrating the vibrant and diverse possibilities within digital and photographic mediums. We’re excited to see how you capture, interpret, and innovate in your art practice.

We’re looking for innovative and expressive pieces in the following categories:

• Digital Art: Original digital creations like digital paintings, graphic designs, 3D art, animations, or any imaginative digital media.
  
• Photography: Both traditional and digital photography, including photo essays, conceptual pieces, and creative manipulations.
• Mixed Media: Artworks that blend digital elements with physical media or intertwine photography with other artistic techniques.
• Video Art: Experimental films or digital videos that incorporate photography or digital imagery.
• About the Theme

Digital art and photography provide unique avenues to explore concepts, moments, and perspectives. This exhibition aims to showcase works that push the boundaries of traditional practices and highlight how technology and innovation shape the creation and perception of art.

We invite submissions that engage with:

• Innovative Digital Techniques: Discover how digital tools can create unique visual experiences—think digital painting, 3D rendering, glitch art, or even interactive installations.
• Conceptual Photography: We welcome pieces that tell stories or convey concepts beyond traditional photography—like staged photography or thought-provoking manipulations.
• The Intersection of Digital and Analog: Works that blend traditional methods with digital techniques, celebrating the harmony of old and new media.
• Abstract and Experimental Photography: Use photography to explore abstract concepts or innovative visual languages.
• Digital Storytelling: Artworks that tell stories or provoke thought through digital means, including multimedia pieces or narrative-driven works.
• Thematic Exploration: Pieces that delve into specific themes or social issues, offering commentary or insights into contemporary topics.

Submission Guidelines

Eligibility: This call is open to artists at all stages of their careers—whether you're emerging, mid-career, or established, we want to see your work!

• Artists may submit up to three pieces.
• All submissions must be original and not previously exhibited at The Pearl or its satellite galleries.

Submission Requirements:

• A brief artist statement (max 300 words) explaining how your work connects to the theme of Photography and Digital Art.
• Up to 5 images of your submitted works or a 5-minute video clip (for video art).
• A detailed description of each piece, including dimensions, medium, and any technical or installation needs.
• An artist bio (max 150 words).

Selection Process

A jury of curators, artists, and community members will review submissions, focusing on artistic merit, creativity, and alignment with the theme.
