June 2024 Newsletter
2024-06-09
Warm weather is finally here, and at the Pearl, we are excited to spend time outdoors, whether gardening, hiking, or painting "en plein air". For the rest of the summer, we are excited to invite you to participate in a special opportunity to paint live in front of the Pearl Ellis Gallery. This public display will draw visitors to the gallery and allow you to interact and share your creative process with them. You may also sell the work you produce on-site through our Gallery Square system, though a 20% commission will be deducted. We have easels available in the gallery, including a French easel with a storage box, or you can bring your own. We also have an umbrella to shade you during these lovely sunny days. For more information and to get on the schedule, please reach out to Elaine Smith at elaine@pearlellisgallery.ca.
Summerfest is coming up on June 22nd, and we’re planning a live mini painting event outside. We've received quite a few donations of art materials, so what we really need now are volunteers to man the booth, drawing and painting very simple designs for attendees. We promise it will be a lot of fun! More details can be found through this link: [https://pearlellisgallery.com/2024-06-07/summer-fest/?category_match=0].
In addition to our main gallery, the Pearl has two satellite galleries: the Comox Library and the Comox Community Centre. Our Satellite Gallery Coordinator, Carol Imai, has fully booked the library for 2024, but there are two display cases available at the Community Centre from October 20th to December 15th. The cases are 4 feet high, 7 feet long, and 4 inches deep. Contact Carol at carol@pearlellisgallery.ca to reserve a display case, with priority given to members who haven’t shown recently.
This month, we’ve returned to our pre-pandemic hours of 10 AM to 4 PM and have welcomed many first-time local visitors, along with summer tourists. Our current show, "Emerging Voices," features impressive work by high school students and is attracting much attention.
Despite needing more host volunteers for our extended hours, we’ve filled the June schedule with a record number of new member volunteers. Thanks to all our hosts, new and old, for your dedication and support, and for making our gallery a dynamic and welcoming place. A big thank you as well to Elaine Smith, for her dedication in filling the hosting schedule each month!
We are thrilled to see our community thriving and our gallery bustling with activity. Your participation makes the Pearl a vibrant hub of creativity and connection. We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events and showcasing the incredible talent within our membership. Feel free to reach out with any questions or suggestions. Let's make this summer one to remember!
Warm regards,
Teresa Kachanoski
