October 2024 Newsletter

2024-10-15

We’re already halfway through October, and as I write this on Thanksgiving Monday, I can’t help but reflect on how much we have to be grateful for at the Pearl Ellis Gallery. At the top of the list are our amazing volunteers. Many of you have given your time and energy to help make our gallery a vibrant and welcoming place, whether by hosting or working behind the scenes on important tasks like website support and putting up posters.

We’re also deeply thankful to the Town of Comox for providing us with our beautiful gallery space. It’s a testament to the town’s commitment to the arts and its belief in the value of creativity and community connection.

Sharing our space with the Comox Archives and Museum has been incredibly rewarding. We support each other in many ways, but the museum manager, Matthew Vandervoort, brings a warmth and friendliness that makes hosting in the gallery even more special.

The latest exhibit has been installed and is a beautiful celebration of our unique natural world, as experienced by three artists during their residency at McLoughlin Gardens in 2022. [https://www.mcloughlingardens.org/] Their dedicated time exploring the shoreline and forest has resulted in a collection of artworks in various media. You can read more about the exhibit and the artists here: [https://pearlellisgallery.com/triple-visions/].

Preparations for the holiday gift-giving season are in full swing at the gallery. We've received an outstanding number of submissions for our first-ever Giftables: A Holiday Pop-Up, which will showcase unique handcrafted items alongside affordable art pieces. For two weeks, from November 12th to the 23rd, the gallery will transform into a vibrant shop where the perfect gift is just waiting to be found.

Finally, as if this time of year isn’t busy enough, don’t forget that we are now accepting submissions for next year’s solo and group spots, as well as for our first concept show of the year, Lenses and Layers: Exploring Photography and Digital Art. In addition, Submissions for the final members’ show of 2024 open on Tuesday, October 15th. All the submission opportunities can be found here: [https://pearlellisgallery.com/upcoming-shows/].

We’re excited to see the creativity and talent that our artists bring to these upcoming shows and encourage everyone to participate. Thank you for your continued support and involvement with the Pearl Ellis Gallery. We look forward to sharing the season’s events and exhibitions with you. Wishing you all a wonderful autumn filled with inspiration and creativity!

Warm Regards,
Teresa Kachanoski
Pearl President
