Sarah Bergeron
At the heart of my art practice is an ongoing exploration and inquiry into the natural environment, including the landscape, animals and people, of BC’s West Coast and Vancouver Island. My work calls upon the viewer to consider their interactions with the environment and wildlife, the unique qualities of each animal, and how we may learn from their behaviours. Through the creation of my work I am able to gain a greater understanding and appreciation for the natural environment of the West Coast and the beings that reside here. My hope is that the viewer is able to do the same.
I am a Comox Valley based artist, born and raised on Vancouver Island. In 2017 I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Emily Carr University of Art & Design. In 2015 I completed the Fine Arts Diploma Program at North Island College. I have been involved in the Comox Valley arts community as a volunteer for NIC Student Art Events, as a self-directed Curatorial Coop student for Raven Hall Gallery in 2015, as Curatorial Assistant at the Comox Valley Art Gallery from 2014-2016, as Manager at a Spirits of the West Coast Art Gallery from 2021-present, and as a Professional Artist in numerous exhibitions in the Comox Valley and surrounding areas. Having lived in the Comox Valley for my whole life, I have a deep appreciation for its rich and vibrant arts community and the beautiful and inspiring west coast.
