Members Open Theme - Our Home
Pearl Ellis Gallery Apr 02, 2019 – Apr 20, 2019
‘Home’ usually refers to the place where people reside. It is also where other creatures live: a bird’s nest, beaver lodge, spider web, under a log, in a compost heap, or in a lake. Homes can be mobile or temporary: an RV camper, a cabin in the woods, an empty shell for a hermit crab.
What these places share is a sense of identity, a place of comfort, a safe place to raise young, and a place to return to. Migrating birds often come back to the same tree to raise their offspring. Caribou have specific calving grounds they return to. Biologists refer to kelp forests as nurseries for young fish and invertebrates. Adults often return “home for Christmas”, going back to wherever their parents live. Home is about place, memories, and life.
Members of the Pearl Ellis Gallery present their versions of this theme in “Our Home: Members’ Open Show” at the Pearl Ellis Gallery from April 2-20. A wide range of styles and mediums will be displayed, including watercolour, acrylic, oil, photography, and fabric. All work will be available for purchase.
A reception will be held on Saturday, April 6 from 1-3 pm. Artists will be in attendance and everyone is welcome.
