April 2023 Newsletter

2023-04-11

We wish to announce that the 2023 Annual General Meeting will be held April 29, 2023 at 1:00 pm, Lion’s Den, Lower Level, 1729 Comox Avenue, Comox, BC. The Society requires a quorum to carry out this important meeting, so we strongly urge you to attend. The Agenda will be circulated shortly.

The past month has been a very exciting one for the Pearl Ellis Gallery with some spectacular events. The first one is the Trading Spaces show presented by Jonathan Reggler. The event was well attended and Jonathan should be very proud that he sold 34 of 42 paintings during the show. Congratulations! This is a good indication of the calibre of art within our community and the interest in the patrons who come to our Gallery.

The other successful events were the Masa Paper Workshop, the four-week Drawing Workshop, and the Fabric Art Workshop, all well attended and with much positive feedback. Thank you, Juanito Olson, Alora Griffin, and Kate Bridger for presenting these.

Our present show is Inside Art Group Annual Spring Art Show and Sale from April 11 to May 6. This promises to be a very interesting show from a variety of artists so please take the time to come for a visit and encourage your friends and neighbours to come as well. There is an opening reception planned for April 15, 2023 from 1 to 3 pm. Following that is the High School Show May 9 to 27, with students from Highland, Vanier and Au-Coeur-de-l'île participating, another excellent show to look forward to.

Our search for Volunteers continues but we have had two of our vacancies filled by individuals who support the Gallery and are generous with their time. Thanks to Kelly Selden for taking on the Bursary Coordinator role and Teresa Kachanoski for agreeing to the Website Monitor role. Our effort to update the website continues and you can expect to see improvements from time to time. The Volunteer positions that we are still seeking include the Comox Rec Centre Coordinator, the Card Coordinator, and the Reception Coordinator. Please consider these opportunities to get involved and find more information here.

Spring is shaping up to be a busy and rewarding season. Thanks to all members for making this possible.
