Jack Duckworth

Jul 22, 2021 - Aug 14, 2021

Jack Duckworth’s interest and talent for art emerged naturally in his younger years living in Duncan, BC. Family and vocation brought an extended hiatus while serving pastoral and campus Christian missions on Vancouver Island and in Winnipeg, and teaching practical theology modules overseas in Ukraine, Armenia, Amsterdam, and Haiti. In retirement, his artistic interests were rekindled. He receives great joy from the colours and rhythms that come with painting landscapes, seascape, and village scenes locally, and from travels in Canada and overseas. Now living in Nanaimo with his wife, he is becoming established as an artist.…

Comox Valley Photographic Society’s (CVPS) Showcase runs at the Pearl Ellis Gallery on March 4-27 with 38 prints on display.

The 2020 exhibit was closed four days after opening by the lockdown and the prints hung for two months with no viewers. CVPS photographers are hopeful that the 2021 exhibit will make up for the loss. CVPS members have been meeting virtually all year with no group-organized photo shoots. Many have spent the time cleaning out their digital libraries, finding images they hadn’t edited and shot solo assignments, sharing the images online.…

Fibre Art Voices is a small, spirited group of forward-thinking visual artists, who support and encourage one another in expressing a creative voice through the use of fibre. Diverse artistic backgrounds and a passion for textiles enable the collective to work with an extensive variety of mediums and techniques to create individual stories, rich in design, colour and texture. Through love of textiles they challenge each other, individually and as a group, and share the energy and inspiration gained from living in the breathtaking West Coast environment. The challenge for this exhibition was for each artist to use an acrylic pour as inspiration to create a textile/fibre art piece, measuring 18 inches by 24 inches. Smaller complementary pieces could also accompany the artist’s main entry. …

Selections - John Janzen

Jan 07, 2020 - Jan 25, 2020

New year, new show at the Pearl Ellis Gallery

The Pearl Ellis Art Gallery starts the new year with “Selections” by J.F. Janzen. The exhibition is about choices and – in this case – images that are part of the artist’s journey of change and growth over the past five years. A recent move to the Comox Valley from Victoria led Janzen to establish Studio Rivertown on his new property. It meshes, along with other ongoing projects, his impressions of the surrounding area from an environmental viewpoint with a deep need for concern for the planet. ”Selections” could be considered a familiarization of Janzen’s style of mark making.…
