Children’s book illustrator featured at the Pearl Ellis Gallery
The Pearl Ellis Art Gallery is pleased to feature a solo exhibition by Comox artist Svea Swanson from September 18 to October 6. Svea began painting after a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis in 2000. She found the flow of oil paint onto canvas matched her own rhythm and helped to ease the constant pain she was experiencing. The painting eventually led to the creation of a children’s book, “I Can Count. So Can You. We are Silly Eggeroos.” Some of these images will be included in the exhibition.…

The Pearl Ellis Gallery is pleased to present a retrospective exhibition and sale of Julian Barker’s work from June 26-July 14.
As a young man, Barker attended the Banff School of Fine Arts and took art courses at the University of British Columbia. There, he developed a greater appreciation of the skills involved in drawing and painting. A solo exhibition by local artist Jerry Simice will be presented from January 30 to February 17. Simice has lived and worked in the Comox Valley since 1979. He has been painting for the past 20 years, experimenting with technique and materials to produce vibrant works on paper, canvas and canvas board with acrylic, oil pastels and inks. Campbell River artist Deborah Wachter's work is more about the act of painting rather than the image. Her work is created by juxtaposition and using elements of composition and design to bring a piece to completion, sometimes using subtraction of elements to bring focus. Deborah earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Victoria with painting as her major area of study. After university Deborah sat as a board member of the Kelowna Art Centre Society assisting in the development of the Rotary Centre for The Arts in Kelowna BC. As part of the building committee she worked with city planners to establish a venue for artists to create and showcase their work.…
